  • sqrrl101 commented on the blog post BioShock Infinite delay could signal GTA V release date, say analysts   1 week, 6 days ago · View

Any word on whether there’s a simultaneous PC release, or will the True Master Race of gamers have to wait 6 months or more for a poorly optimised port like with GTA IV?

  • sqrrl101 commented on the blog post Blockbuster launches ‘VIP Gamer’ rewards scheme   1 week, 6 days ago · View

Wait… blockbuster still exists? Who on earth uses it?

  • Was about to comment about how “disruptive innovation” is complete PR bollocks, then I noticed that there’s a tag for that. Well played, Beefjack, well played.

  • sqrrl101 commented on the blog post Sniper Elite V2 review – Great sniping, shame about the rest   2 weeks, 6 days ago · View

Currently waiting for this to unlock on Steam. I played to demo and came to a faily similar conclusion to the review, although I found the X-ray bullet cam gimmick was enjoyable enough to carry it for me. I’m telling myself that it’ll help me revise anatomy.

Out of interest, who are your five decent characters?

The ones I can come up with immediately:
    Paul Denton (Deus Ex)
    Niko Bellic (GTA IV)
    GLaDOS (Portal)
    Therese/Jeanette Voerman (VTM:Bloodlines)
    Minsc (Baldur’s Gate 1/2)

And… uh… yeah, all the others that come to mind are the standard gravelly-voiced white guys.

  • Yeah, a lot of that trailer reminded me of Human Revolution, especially the start before everything got really bombastic.

This has piqued my interest somewhat, though – the first COD game to do so since the original Modern Warfare. I’m a sucker for near-future military badassery.

  • sqrrl101 commented on the blog post Skyrim DLC info found in update files – crossbows!   3 weeks, 1 day ago · View

Crossbows would be a lovely addition to the game. I enjoyed using longbows a lot, but couldn’t help myself wishing that I were using a efficient, deadly crossbow.

  • sqrrl101 commented on the blog post Dishonored release date set for September?   3 weeks, 1 day ago · View

This is probably my most-anticipated game right now; the aesthetics and gameplay look excellent and the team behind it has a superb pedigree. I’m hoping that these release dates are accurate as it should give me enough time to play it before returning to university.

  • sqrrl101 commented on the blog post New York bans sex offenders from online games   1 month, 2 weeks ago · View

Do they say what the mean by “sex offender” in this context? Obviously they want people to think of dirty paedophiles stalking kids on online games, but an absurd range of crimes can get one onto a sex offender register, especially in the US.

Best headline I’ve seen on the subject yet, and +1 internets for the DX reference.

  • sqrrl101 commented on the blog post UK teachers want stringent legislation to counter violent games   1 month, 2 weeks ago · View

To clarify, Susan Greenfield isn’t a psychologist – she’s a neuroscientist who focuses on synaptic pharmacology and whose research interests mostly cover neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

  • sqrrl101 commented on the blog post Why do games like Mass Effect 3 get slammed on Metacritic?   2 months, 2 weeks ago · View

I don’t know if “abusive” is a fair term. People evidently think that there’s enough value in DLC to make it worth buying, otherwise the publishers wouldn’t keep releasing it. I’d agree that there have been some egregious examples of overpriced DLC, but there have been crappy overpriced expansion packs for years now, so it’s [...]

  • sqrrl101 commented on the blog post Games industry will ‘pull through’, says GAME CEO   2 months, 3 weeks ago · View

Well obviously the industry will pull through – there’s still a huge demand for games which is unlikely to abate any time soon – it’s his company’s outmoded business model that’s in question. Shame about the jobs lost if GAME goes under, but to be honest I’m somewhat surprised anyone actually shops there any more.

  • sqrrl101 commented on the blog post Battlefield 3: The script treatment   2 months, 3 weeks ago · View

That was excellent. I played the single player as far as the stock exchange bit and gave up due to the high levels of tedium. Thanks for informing me about the rest of the plot and being far more entertaining than the actual game would have been!

  • Been quite busy but managing to squeeze in the occasional round of Battlefield 3, and still enjoying the occasional dopamine hits that my brain doles out when I manage to kill someone or get a new weapon.

  • sqrrl101 commented on the blog post UK’s first dating site for gamers launched today   3 months ago · View

Lovely idea, but I’d bet serious money that at least 80% of the people signing up will be male, and within a month the majority of the initial female users will have left after growing tired of receiving thousands of mindless messages from the male members.

  • sqrrl101 commented on the blog post Bloomberg pits ‘Real Cost’ of gaming at $17,000 per family   3 months, 3 weeks ago · View

This is ludicrous in the extreme, and they also seem to be assuming that one doesn’t shop around for the items. A quick search of amazon.com shows the keyboard to be $10 cheaper than their listed price, and the mouse to be £32 cheaper. The fact that they suggest a $33 HDMI Monster Cable (demonstrably [...]

  • sqrrl101 commented on the blog post Xbox 720 to be six times as powerful as current gen?   3 months, 4 weeks ago · View

Yeah, it certainly isn’t notably high end. Assuming these stats are accurate, it’s thoroughly underwhelming for a 2013 release.

  • sqrrl101 commented on the blog post Ubisoft DRM monitors hardware changes   4 months, 1 week ago · View

I was vaguely interested in Anno 2070 despite it being Ubisoft, but now I wouldn’t even consider buying it in any circumstance other than a ridiculously cheap steam sale. Having to worry that my game won’t run because I switched out my graphics card one too many times just isn’t worth the hassle.

  • sqrrl101 commented on the blog post GAME denies website hacking claims   4 months, 1 week ago · View

GAME is still operational? Huh. I just sort of assumed that Amazon and Play.com would have put them out of business by now.
