This is ludicrous in the extreme, and they also seem to be assuming that one doesn’t shop around for the items. A quick search of amazon.com shows the keyboard to be $10 cheaper than their listed price, and the mouse to be £32 cheaper. The fact that they suggest a $33 HDMI Monster Cable (demonstrably [...]

Yeah, it certainly isn’t notably high end. Assuming these stats are accurate, it’s thoroughly underwhelming for a 2013 release.

I was vaguely interested in Anno 2070 despite it being Ubisoft, but now I wouldn’t even consider buying it in any circumstance other than a ridiculously cheap steam sale. Having to worry that my game won’t run because I switched out my graphics card one too many times just isn’t worth the hassle.

GAME is still operational? Huh. I just sort of assumed that Amazon and Play.com would have put them out of business by now.

No music on the video? That’s a damn shame – the music was one of the best bits!

sqrrl101 commented on the blog post Is Skyrim too damn long? 2 months, 2 weeks ago · View
Completely agree – Skyrim is by no means too big. One pleasant aspect of its enormity is that (even ignoring the emergent stuff) it’s a near-certainty that, when discussing the game with someone else, they’ll have done things that you haven’t and vice-versa, making for interesting conversations.

Interesting, but far from conclusive. fMRI is notoriously tricky to correlate with real-world behaviour, and “less activation” doesn’t mean much without a significantly better understanding of the regions involved than we have right now. Still, good job on reporting on these things. It’s encouraging to see gaming sites reporting potentially negative effects of gaming. I’d [...]

I know one should exercise caution when getting excited about future games, but god damn am I looking forward to this one. The pedigree is excellent and everything I’ve seen and heard points toward it being my kind of game. If they screw this one up, I’ll be a very sad panda.

sqrrl101 commented on the blog post New Xbox 360 console model to come by 2012? 3 months ago · View
I wish they would get around to releasing a new generation of consoles. The 360 and PS3 are ridiculously out of date compared to modern PC hardware and it’s retarding the development of PC games as only a handful of developers are willing to spend the extra time to push the graphical capabilities further than [...]

So, they think that they’re going to be able to prevent technologically aware young people from accessing entertainment? Hah! Good luck with that. I would bet every penny I have that, within a month, there’ll be a plethora of methods devised by intelligent teenagers to circumvent the ban . If these people really are addicted, [...]

Please get into the habit of citing the original papers. These might be interesting results, but it’s really impossible to tell without reading the original research – newspaper articles are at best a vague approximation, and at worst actively misleading. Either way, this is probably nothing to worry about unduly. The dopaminergic reward system is [...]

“all you’re doing is pissing off the people you want to convert to your cause.” I think you’ve hit the nail on the head there – this is a major problem with all of PETA’s campaigns; they’re preaching to the choir. If one’s already invested in the values that PETA holds, then this Mario game [...]

sqrrl101 commented on the blog post Suffering Skyrim bugs? “Hang in there” says Bethesda 3 months, 1 week ago · View
Been putting off getting Skyrim as I should be getting work done (a strategy which apparently isn’t working too well, seeing how I’m procrastinating by commenting on a gaming site), so I must admit that I’m a little glad to see that the game is a bit buggy on release. Hopefully they’ll have cleared it [...]

Just tried playing the game itself, and it’s really rather poor. Given PETA’s multi-million-dollar budget, I would have thought they could do something a bit better quality. http://features.peta.org/mario-kills-tanooki/?utm_campaign=Mario%20Kills%20Tanooki&utm_source=PETA%20Pitch&utm_medium=Media Also, they have “Super Tofu Boy”, a lame parody of Super Meat Boy laced with super subtle pro-vegan propaganda. http://features.peta.org/super-meat-boy-parody/ Phrases scrolling along the bottom include: “Tofu [...]

Most of PETA’s activities tend towards simply stirring up controversy without engaging in any kind of meaningful dialogue about the issues they’re ostensibly trying to raise. The “I’d rather go naked than wear fur” and “holocaust on your plate” campaigns immediately jump to mind. Also, as you say, surely it makes more sense to criticise [...]
